Growing up, I was never really into the whole super hero thing. Even now I’m not that bothered by it. Maybe that’s because I was a girly girl, into Barbie’s and spice girls. Super Hero’s for me was a ‘boy thing’. Now the world is a different place. There is a huge deal over gender stereotyping and the increase of super hero related film releases has meant companies such as DC entertainment are getting a lot more exposure from both genders. More and more girls are into super hero’s these days. And whilst I have my own opinion on the gender sterotype debate, I am fully supportive of there being more super hero related merchandise available, not only for girls, but for both sexes.
As my boys are Disney obsessed, we haven’t really moved into the realm of super heroes yet, but I know it is only around the corner. Especially with Ellis, who is a lot more aware of what is going on around him.
